Our Story

Mobile Semiconductor is a technology driven, semiconductor IP that specializes in ultra low power and Rad Hard memory compilers. Founded in 2006, we were acquired by Nordic Semiconductor in 2023 for our unique low power memory design technology. After a brief hiatus from the IP market, Mobile Semiconductor is now selling memory IP to the commercial and Mil/Gov market. Mobile Semiconductor has a track record of exceptional leadership and market-proven products, while never losing sight of innovation and customer success.

Exceptional Leadership

Mobile Semiconductor was founded in 2006 by Cameron Fisher and Stephen Hellriegel to bring advanced memory system concepts to market.

Mr. Hellriegel currently owns Helldyne Inc. but remains a key contributor to the success of Mobile Semiconductor by implementing test methodologies and providing device testing
services.

Market-Proven

Recognizing the growing performance demands placed on mobile devices by consumers and enterprise, Mobile Semiconductor uses a combination of innovation, patented design structures, and outsourced manufacturing to deliver next-generation, low power memory systems.

After initial funding in 2007, Mobile Semi was backed in March 2009 with a Series A round of funding led by DataLight, Inc. Since that time, Mobile Semi’s silicon-proven memory solutions have been produced in foundries in Asia, North America and Europe for both commercial and rad hard applications including TSMC, Global Foundries, Tower Semiconductor, SkyWater Technology, Sandia National Laboratories and others.

Innovative Products

Mobile Semi’s areas of expertise include low voltage and high speed optimized embedded SRAMs, radiation hardened embedded SRAMs, custom embedded SRAM solutions and built-in self test (BIST) compilers. They can create memory compilers efficiently using their Trailblaze™ software which provides automation to memory design, characterization and creation of new EDA Views. This software is available to purchase by industry partners.

Mobile Semiconductor operated profitably for 17 years as an IP provider achieving significant success both in the IOT (ultra low power design expertise) and Mil-Gov(RadHard by design expertise).

Key customers included AMS OSRAM, Global Foundries, Nordic Semiconductor, Sandia National Laboratories and Trusted Semiconductor Solutions.

Backed by Nordic

Nordic Semiconductor had been a long-term customer of Mobile-Semi due to their requirement
for the very lowest power memories.

Nordic Semiconductor purchased Mobile-Semi in totality in 2023 and Mobile Semi now operates as subsidiary, with the goal to 1) design the memories that are extremely low power for Nordic and can also be sold to other customers and 2) to
continue delivering RadHard products to the US defense market.

The small company innovation is now backed by Nordic Semiconductor production volume.
